Contentment.

Contentment is satisfaction with one’s possessions, status, or situation.

It’s being pleased with one’s life.

To be content is to be at peace.

For most of us, contentment is an elusive quality. We want to be contented people, living contented lives. But, so few people are truly pleased and satisfied with their lives. So, how can we increase our contentment? This article offers 5 Bible verses and 5 prayers for more contentment in our lives. Why not drop by to check it out?

For most of us, contentment is an elusive quality.

We want to be contented people, living contented lives. But, I find so few people who are truly pleased and satisfied with their lives.

We are people who…

  • Want more.
  • Or, want different.
  • Want what others have.
  • Want what’s on the other side of that fence.

So, how can we “learn” to be content?

How do we find true contentment?

How can we learn to be satisfied with where we are, with what we have, with who we are, and with our lives just as they are today?

Might I suggest 5 Bible verses (along with 5 prayers) that will increase our contentment?

Verse One – Matthew 6:31-33

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Prayer

“Father, would You help me not to worry so much about what we will eat, drink, and wear? I get so caught up in these things and allow them to dominate my thoughts. Would You remind me and help me to seek You above all else? Would You also grant me the courage and the strength to live righteously? Thank You that You will provide every single thing that we need.”

Verse Two – Philippians 4:11-13

“Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.  For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”

Prayer

“Lord, like Paul, I want to learn to be content with whatever I have. I want to learn how to live with nothing or with everything. Would You teach me that ‘secret’ of living in every situation? Whether my stomach is full or empty, would You fill my heart with joy? Whether my bank account is overflowing or empty, would You give me contentment? Thank You that I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength.

Verse Three – 1 Timothy 6:6

“Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.”

Prayer

“God, would You make me truly godly and content, at the same time? Thank You that these things together can make me so wealthy.”

Verse Four – 1 Timothy 6:8

“So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.”

Prayer

“Father, thank You that I have food to eat and clothing to wear. Thank You for taking such good care of me. Would You help me to be more content with these things?”

Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said,

“I will never fail you.
    I will never abandon you.”

Prayer

All of these were so good and we need to be reminded of some time when we fail Him. We know He will never leave us nor forsake us. Thanks so much for this reminder.

    Thank you, Amelia!
And, yes, we do need to be reminded that He is always with us. He never leaves us or forsakes us.
Sure do love and appreciate you and O.C.~
