Wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but things are getting intense in the world.

Really intense!

There is so much seriousness and heaviness around us.

It’s a great day for something that will make us SMILE!

I thought the wit and wisdom of The Peanuts Gang might make for a fun and positive post today.

Wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters

Just a bit of information about their creator, Charles Schultz:

“Schulz’s understated genius lay in his ability to keep his well-known and comfortable characters fresh enough to attract new readers while keeping his current audience coming back for more.

His humor was at times observational, wry, sarcastic, nostalgic, bittersweet, silly, and melancholy, with occasional flights of fancy and suspension of reality thrown in from time to time.

When Schulz announced his retirement in December 1999, the Peanuts comic strip was syndicated in over 2,600 newspapers worldwide, with book collections translated into over 25 languages.

He has been awarded the highest honors from his fellow cartoonists, received Emmy Awards for his animated specials, been recognized and lauded by the U.S. and foreign governments, had NASA spacecraft named after his characters, and inspired a concert performance at Carnegie Hall.

And still today, the Peanuts Gang continues to entertain and inspire the young and the young at heart.” (https://schulzmuseum.org/about-the-man/schulz-biography/)

Although there has been some debate about Schultz’s faith and beliefs, his work carries some amazing spiritual undertones.

I thought it might be fun to take some of his cartoons and give them more obvious and intentional spiritual significance.

So, here are some cartoons and great words of scripture to encourage you.

The first bit of wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters

“Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.

Instead, be kind to each other, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”

Ephesians 4:32, NLT

The second bit of wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters

“So we’re not giving up.

How could we?

Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making a new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace.

These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye.

The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.”

2 Corinthians 4:16-18, MSG

The third bit of wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters

‘Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.

Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.

Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow.

They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you-you of little faith?

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?”‘

Matthew 6:25-32, NIV

The fourth bit of wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and go
    both now and forevermore.”

(Psalm 121:1-8, NIV)

The fifth bit of wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters

“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.

If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.

Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm.

But how can one be warm alone?

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer.

Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, NLT

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.

You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God?

    They cannot be numbered!
I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!”

Psalm 139:13-18

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,”

Their lives tell us what faith means.

So we, too, should run the race that is before us and never quit.

We should remove from our lives anything that would slow us down and the sin that so often makes us fall.”

So, what did you think of the Wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters?

Could you imagine that some of those Bible verses (or the principles from them) led to some of those cartoons??

It is possible.

Did you think of some other great verses that could have been added to one or more of the cartoons? (I’d love to hear your ideas.)

My prayer is that you and I will remember to ALWAYS be on the lookout for encouraging words from heaven.

They can come in the form of music, teachers, mail or email, a preacher, the radio, a good word from a friend, a sign on a marquee, or maybe even from a cartoon.

So much fun! I’m a huge fan of Peanuts. Thanks for adding a smile to my day. Isn’t it wonderful the joy-filled way Schulz used to point people to the truth. Blessings to you my friend!

What a wonderful idea! Ah, I always loved the Peanuts gang. My daughter, Hayley (the girl with the flower in her mouth), adores the seasonal Peanuts specials – The Great Pumpkin, the Thanksgiving special, and the Christmas one. She dislikes the newer versions very much because they just don’t seem “authentic enough” lol!
This post will be a refreshing pick-me-up to many, I’m sure! 🙂

    helloredds@gmail.com · 11/06/2015 at 11:32 PM

I love those peanuts too! And, my kids enjoy them – especially those old versions!

And, it sounds like you have some very talented musicians in your family! Should we get their autographs now??

Thanks for stopping by and leaving such kind remarks today!

Hope you have a blessed weekend~

I always like their cartoons. You could see yourself in so many ways. The scripture in Ecclesiastes was especially meaningful to me, because when I was single there were three of us girls who got to know each other & became real close. One day Wanda said she had read in her bible scripture something special about our friendship. They both live in Mississippi, but we talk or E-mail each other. “A cord of three is not easily broken”– my bookmark is getting worn but I still have it after over 30 years. Thanks for this blog.

    Hey Amelia,

Thanks for stopping by today to leave a kind word!

I do love those Peanuts – the great theologians that they are!

Glad you have some really sweet and faithful friends. They are certainly gifts!!

Hope you have a blessed day~

My favorite of all time cartoonist. Charlie Brown classics are now begin introduced to my grandchildren. My girls grew up on them, passing down to the littles. Love each and everyone of the quotes you chose and the message from our heavenly Father too.
