What’s your WORD??

A few years ago, I read of a wonderful idea to put into practice at the beginning of a new year. The idea was to simply choose one word to be your theme, your mantra, your focus for the year.

The word could be simple or complex.

Practical or lofty.

Challenging or affirming.

Primarily, the one word has to summarize your main ambition for the year.

I’ve tried this practice over the last few years.

In 2013, my word was “AWE.” I prayed to see God and to be awed by Him in everything.

In 2014, my word was “HOPE.” No matter what was going on, I asked God to give us hope to press on.

This year, I’ve chosen the word “STEADFAST.” I found this word while reading through a section of the Psalms. In Psalm 57, David is hiding in a cave from King Saul and praying to the Lord.

In Psalm 57:6, He tells God, “My soul is bowed down.” This phrase literally means that he is bent down in distress as he is fleeing and hiding from the king.

However, right in the middle of hiding and distress, David makes the most interesting declaration in verse 7, “My heart is steadfast, O Lord, my heart is steadfast.”

While in the middle of the chaos, craziness and challenges of his life, David prays with bold confidence. “My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed; or, my heart is steadfast—it does not doubt or waver, it is firm in its trust on Thee.” (Spence-Jones)

To be steadfast is to be fixed and stayed upon God, to determine to trust Him no matter what is going on around us.

That is my prayer for myself and for my family this year – that we would stay so focused on our powerful and awesome God that we will be steadfast, determined and courageous to face whatever will come in 2015.

My verse for this year is from 1 Corinthians 15:58 in the NASB:

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be STEADFAST, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.

So, what about you?

Do you have a word for 2015?

You can!

Here are some questions to get you thinking about your word:

~ What matters most to you this year?

~ What do you need more than anything else?

~ What character quality are you praying for more than any other?

~ Where are you weak?

~ Where do you need help and strength?

~ What is most pressing on your heart and mind?

~ What is essential to you right now?

Maybe you need:

  • Joy or
  • Faith or
  • Hope or
  • Courage or
  • Renewal or
  • Peace or
  • Healing or
  • Forgiveness or
  • Strength or
  • Something else…

I pray that you will spend some time today considering your “word” for 2015.

And, as you come up with your word, I’d love to hear about it!!

  2. Surrender is my word for this year. It is a 2015 focus word for me. Jesus is seated in the throne. My desire is to surrender to His will for me and my family. His way is always the best.

    1. Thanks for taking the time to post on my blog, Carol.

I really appreciate you stopping by and offering some insights.

“Surrender” is a great word. Not easy, but a wonderful goal for the year.

I pray that God will bless your willingness to submit to Him and trust His plans for your life and your family’s lives.

  3. my word in 2014 was determined! This year for 2015, I have chosen content! Love and miss you my friend!!!

  4. My word is “Fearless.” Over the years the Lord has delivered me from many fears. I realized recently that as I grow older I have unconsciously developed new fears. I have been pondering this before the Lord and knew that I do not want to spend or end my life becoming more and more afraid. And the Lord, with His gentle grace, reminded me that He will deliver me from ALL my fears. Psalm 34:4
I will memorize that entire Psalm this year.

    1. What a great word, Geri!

      Fearless. I love that!

And, I can’t think of a better Psalm to memorize than Psalm 34. You go girl!!

Praying that God will bless you this year and give you great courage and a heart that’s fearless~

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and insights on this page.
Appreciate you and miss seeing you~
      Melanie
