6 Bible Verses Describing YOUR Father God

It’s been an amazing journey.

If you had told me how fascinating this adventure would become, I would have started it sooner.

My trek through my Bible concordance has been one of the best things I’ve done in a long time.

You see, each morning I turn to the back of the Bible and focus on just one word.

I started in the A’s with words like abandon, abound, and abundance.

I’ve slowly moved through the alphabet.

I now find myself in the F’s looking at words like faith, faithfulness, and Father.

Why do this type of study?

After spending time being instructed by Dr. Kirk Kilpatrick in Hebrew class, I began to appreciate the incredible truth and meaning found in just one Bible word.

Rather than rush across huge passages of scripture, it’s been sweet to focus on one word at a time.

I look up that word as it appears throughout the Bible, read the context, look up meanings using some of my Bible tools, and apply that one word to daily life.

It’s been a refreshing way to study the Bible.

Over the past few days, I’ve been looking at the word, “Father.”

The verses I’ve studied all discuss and portray God as the Father.

During my study time, I discovered some sweet encouragement. I pray that you will also be encouraged by these promises and principles!

Here are 6 Bible Verses Describing YOUR Father God:

God, the Father, is MY FATHER

This first verse I looked up about God as Father comes from Psalm 89:26,

And he will call out to me, ‘You are my Father,
my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’”

Although this passage is talking about King David and God’s promises to him as the king, I believe we can also claim this promise and call out to our great God as Father, as God, and as the Rock of our salvation.

Think about it: He's your God. He's your Father. He's the Rock of your salvation. Click To Tweet

God, the Father, is the One to whom we can pray!

In Matthew 6, Jesus is teaching His followers about prayer. He’s instructing them on how to pray in Matthew 6:9,

He’s instructing them on how to pray in Matthew 6:9,

“In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in Heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.”

He’s our Father. He’s in heaven. And, He’s the One to whom we can pray.

We don’t have to go through a priest, a mediator, or anyone else. We have direct access to God the Father through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Because of what Jesus did on the cross, we can boldly approach the throne of God and talk to Him anytime. Click To Tweet

God, the Father,  is our Abba – our Daddy!

This perspective of God comes from Romans 8:15.

Check out the way it reads,

So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”

According to the Life Application Bible,

“In Roman culture, the adopted person lost all rights in his old family and gained the rights of a legitimate child in his new family. He became a full heir to his new father’s estate. Likewise, when a person becomes a Christian, he or she gains all the privileges and responsibilities of a child in God’s family.”

We have been adopted by our kind and gracious Abba Father.

Our Abba Father is a precious Father. And, this precious Father has adopted you! Click To Tweet

I am blessed to be a child with a kind earthly father, but many of you cannot relate.

Can I assure you that, as a believer in Christ, you have been adopted into a family with the most amazing, compassionate, and kindest Father of all?

God, our Father, loves us so much!

Pieces of evidence of God’s love are sprinkled throughout the scriptures, however, I’ve chosen 1 John 3:1 to illustrate His love.

1 John 3:1 says,

“See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!”

We are His children, and He loves us!

What a gift!

What a privilege!

John 3:16 tells us that He loved us so much that He sent His only son to die for us. “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

No matter what is going on in your world today, remember - God loves you dearly! Click To Tweet

God, our Father,  Welcomes us into His presence!

This is another wonderful promise about God the Father from the pages of the Bible.

This promise comes from Ephesians 3:12,

“Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.”

Because of Jesus, we have direct and unimpeded access to God the Father. Click To Tweet

We can boldly and confidently enter the presence of Almighty God!

This is amazing news and a promise to hold onto today!

God our Father is a Good, Good Father!

From the pages of the Sermon on the Mount, we find this next wonderful promise. The Lord Jesus is talking about asking, looking, and knocking.

In Mathew 7:9-11, Jesus says,

“You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?  Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.”

Our heavenly Father is a good Father who gives good gifts.

He is the ultimate perfect parent.

We can trust our God to be a good Father - a faithful, just, and trustworthy Father. Click To Tweet

One extra: God, the Father, Cares for us!

Why not add one more promise for good measure? I just love this verse from 1 Peter 5:7,

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”

It's pretty simple, God the Father cares about you! Click To Tweet

God cares about you.

Our God knows where you live.

Indeed, He knows what you need. He knows about your loftiest dreams and hopes.

Father God is aware of what is breaking your heart right now.

God loves you and cares about you!

Hi thank you so much for the teachings on Father. I was Blessed He’s truly the Good Good Father as the song writer says.
Matthew 7:9-11 reminded me of the many times I’ve prayed and asked my Heavenly Father for things I needed and He always gave me the best. I agree with you He is the ultimate perfect parent.💜
Blessings to you and your family.

greetings to you!! i love that you are going through your concordance and focussing on individual words – for months now i have been sending out meditations focussing on all the I AM statements – including those in isaiah – and will be going on to write about the Jehovah Names of God, Jehovah Jireh, Shammah, Rapha etc etc… i came across your article while looking for specific Scriptures that we can trust our Father God and it has been a great blessing – keep going and keep sharing your thoughts with a hungry and needy world… see you when we meet in Heaven, in His Glorious Presence – barbs

    helloredds@gmail.com · 07/16/2021 at 8:23 AM

    Amen, Barbs!
    His names are so precious!
Love that you are writing about these names!
I’m working on a devotional right now that points back to the names and the character of God.
    Blessings to you,
    Melanie

God, our Father is NOT Father God, that is NOT the same. Jesus left us an example of how Christians should address our God, he says when you pray say, Our Father , NOT Father God. There is no reference of FAther God in the bible. God, our Father is NOt the same as Father God. There is an non Christian religon that addresses their Gods as Father God to distinquish their gods from another. Christians ARE NOT to adopt any pagan or non christian practices. Please research this. very hard to find info. maybe this will help

    Hey Lisa,
Thanks for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment. I always appreciate the honest feedback.
However, I must respectfully disagree with you on this point. This is not a pagan practice. This is just another way to call on God. And, the article you shared did not say this was the wrong way, just maybe not the best way.
Truly, I believe that the important issue here is that we call on Him.
    Blessings to you,
    Melanie

I think you need to pay attention to what Lisa said. We have many privileges in relationship with God, but we are always best to use the words that the Scriptures use. “Father God” isn’t a term used in the Scriptures.

        helloredds@gmail.com · 10/20/2021 at 9:21 AM

        Hey David,

Thanks for sharing your feedback. I always try to listen to what others have to share.

However, I think you and Lisa are majoring on minors. I don’t see anything theologically that discourages us from using the names of God in a different order. He is God the Father, and He is Father God. He is Christ Jesus and He is Jesus Christ.

I believe the real point is that we call on Him and believe in Him.

I just don’t see any scriptural reason to worry about using the wrong names or the wrong name order when we call on Him!

Hope you have a blessed day~

That Chris Tomlin song is one of my favorites! This was such an encouraging post to read. I never get tired of thinking about who our Father is.

chaos2peace · 10/18/2016 at 7:59 AM

What a great article and reminder about God! The song at the end was just perfect for me this day. Thanks friend!

    Keep on keeping on!
    I’m blessed by you~

I love thinking about God as the rock. There’s a song “The Rock Won’t Move” by Vertical Church and I listen to it on repeat sometimes it’s so good. How amazing that our Father is unshakable!! He is so good!

    helloredds@gmail.com · 10/18/2016 at 8:12 AM

I’m not sure I know that song, Lauren. I’m going to have to look it up.
Thanks for stopping by today and leaving an encouraging word.
I pray you will be blessed as you lean on our Rock today~

I loved your bonus verse! Give your cares to him, because He cares for you. So much love and peace to be found in the arms of our Abba.

Amen! That bonus verse grabbed me at the end of the week, and I had to add it in!
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your words of encouragement, Sarah!
    Sure do appreciate you~
