Journals.

Journals have been the source of many people’s anger, frustration, passions, love, and general curiosities for so many centuries.

You’ve probably heard about the famous politicians of the world, who kept their own diaries/journals.

One of the most famous is King George VI, who wrote a diary during World War II.

It showed remarkable insights into this mental state, his beliefs, and how he saw the allies of the UK.

Another famous journal writer is Magaret Thatcher, who wrote a diary during her time in office as Prime Minister.

For 11 years she was at the forefront of the Cold War and a rapidly changing Europe. Her personality shines through and makes for brilliant reading.

And to this day, people are still using diaries or journals to express who they are, what they believe in, and why.

Do you like to jot things down in notebooks, journals, or diaries? Discover how keeping a journal could be beneficial to your life.

How Keeping a Journal Could Be Beneficial to Your Life

Keeping a Journal is Like a Mirror on the Wall

The great thing about diaries is, you write them as if no one will ever read them!

This is somewhat of a ‘mirror on the wall’ cultural phenomenon because you do hope that one day someone will.

However, you are looking into a mirror, asking yourself questions, and honestly answering them to the best of your knowledge.

This quite clearly has very therapeutic effects on our minds.

We know that we have the absolute privacy we crave, to express who we really are.

And in some sense, we hope that our journal will be read so we can emerge as our authentic selves.

Rather than come out and just say what your darkest fears are, the things you dislike about yourself, or the things you are really shy to express; the diary does it for you.

It’s a liberating experience.

And, a journal makes it all possible.

The Modern Journal

As you may have noticed, blogging is a perfect modern diary or journal equivalent.

You can be absolutely anonymous, no one needs to know who you are.

You can have a totally made-up persona, name and you need not upload a photo of yourself. The only thing that counts is your writing.

Did you know that 77% of regular internet users read blogs?

Every single week, about 409 million people view 20 billion pages.

These are not web pages for eCommerce. Rather,  these are blogs written by normal people.

In fact, you may want to start your own blog.

Even if it’s just a simple blog with not much in the way of design. Initially, you just need to focus on the quality of the writing.

Learning a few SEO techniques would also help to boost your ratings on the SERPs to get more readers.

However, when you connect to blogging services and websites, you will have other bloggers who also have diaries and journals, read and share your pages.

In other words, your diary can be read by thousands of people, while not putting your identity out there.

Should You Write in a Diary or a Journal?

You may be a little bewildered by the somewhat interchangeability of the words’ diary and journal.

For one thing, a diary is mainly just an outlet for your mind and soul.

A journal is about the progression of your soul and mind. You will set yourself goals, share with your readers how you are getting on and how your life is changing for the better.

There are professional services you can join for this kind of activity.

It’s mainly for people trying to better themselves, such as stopping smoking, drinking, losing weight, or trying to become a better communicator.

This service asks you to join our gratitude journal challenge. You will be set some tasks to complete, as per your ideals that you set for yourself.

At the end of the day, you will be sent an SMS message for you to make a simple reply to. The message will ask if you stuck to your guns and managed to succeed in the daily task you were set. This could be something like ‘sticking within your calorie limit‘ or perhaps, ‘said one nice thing about yourself in the mirror’.

The service then tracks your “yes” or “no” replies and plots how well or bad you are doing. You get to earn badges of accomplishment and climb leaderboards.

Maybe this is a good option for you?

Keeping a Journal For Your Career

Career progression can be a struggle.

We try our best to understand the needs of our employer and find a way to stand above our colleagues in order to get promoted.

A great way for you to tackle this challenge is to start a career journal.

In a career journal, you can write about your job tasks, goals, and challenges.

The better you understand your work, the more chance you will have at changing in the right way.

Track your progress in regard to your skills and talents by reading your diary at the end of the week.

Sit down with a cup of coffee and see for yourself, where you were falling short and the things you need to change about yourself to get to where you want to go.

Final Thoughts about How Keeping a Journal Could Be Beneficial to Your Life

A journal or diary is so valuable to your everyday life.

It’s going to give you stability, an outlet for your emotions, and above all else, a way for you to be completely honest with yourself.

It can be a way for you to chart your career progression and also, a way for you to connect with thousands of other people who will follow your journey.
