How to Make Philippians 4:13 Personal

We are in the middle of a series on Sundays, and we are so glad you have joined us.

This series is all about personally praying the prayers and the beloved passages of the Bible. Each week, we will take a familiar passage or prayer from the Bible and turn it into a personal prayer you can take and use to pray back to the Lord.

We hope that this will inspire you, increase your faith, and give you some practical ways to pray scripture back to the Lord.

If you have a favorite passage you’d like us to add to this series, please let me know in the comments section below.

Here is what we have shared so far:

If ever there was a verse used to motivate and encourage us, it is today’s verse.

This verse hangs on the walls of more locker rooms, weight rooms, dorm rooms, and bedrooms than almost any other verse. (Or, it used to!)

It’s the heart cry of the new mom who hasn’t had much sleep.

Also, it’s the daily mantra of those trying to eat healthily.

It’s a constant reminder to keep going to work at that difficult job.

It’s the deep assurance to that pastor who wants to give up his post.

Additionally, it’s the hope of the one in a difficult marriage or relationship.

And, it’s a reminder to that soldier fighting for his country to keep going strong.

For athletes, this verse gives strength.

For parents, this verse gives hope.

To the lonely one, this verse offers the courage to not lose heart.

For the burdened, these words offer relief.

For the disappointed, these words offer inspiration.

And, for all of us, these brief words remind us to keep on keeping on.

What is this wonderful little verse?

It’s Philippians 4:13, and it’s one of the most beloved verses in all of the Bible.

Let’s look at it today as a prayer.

Philippians 4:13

“I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.”

How to Make Philippians 4:13 Personal – “I.”

Father, thank You that this verse is for me. I can take this promise to the bank. I am one of the “I’s” that Paul is talking about.

Truly, this promise is personal for me and to me today. I’m so grateful for this!

Can.”

Lord, thank You that I can do all things through You. In You, I am able. I am equipped and strong. I am a stalwart. Because of You, God, I am competent, capable, and completely adequate for the tasks that lie ahead of me today.

Some days, I don’t feel that I’m able to do all that I have to do. I get overwhelmed by my life at times. But, I don’t have to do this alone. In You and Your strength, I can do anything.

Would You fill me with courage and boldness today? Would you energize me and give me such a sense of strength and stamina?

I’m so thankful for the reminder, Lord, in Ephesians 3:20. All glory to You, who is able, through Your mighty power at work within me, to accomplish infinitely more than anyone might ask or think. You are abundantly able to do all things. In You, I am also able to accomplish infinitely more than I might ever ask or think I could.

Do all things.”

Lord, all things are not easy that I need to do. But, You promise that I CAN do all things. As I look at my day and my week, there are some items and some tasks that are going to be challenging. Without You, I’m not sure I can do all of these things.

So, I will press in close to You and abide in You today. You tell me that a branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine. Unless I abide in You, I won’t produce fruit either. And, so, I choose to draw up close to You so that You will draw up close to me. I need You so that I can do all things.

Through Christ.”

Father, thank You that I can do all things because of Jesus. It is through Christ that I can accomplish much. I am so grateful that Your grace is all I need. Your power works best in my weaknesses. So I am glad to boast about my weaknesses so that the power of Christ can work through me.

Apart from you, I really can do nothing. But through You and in You, I can face anything that comes my way today. I am confident because of my great trust in God through Christ. It is not that I think I am qualified to do anything on my own. My qualification comes from You and You alone.

But through You and in You, Lord, I can face anything that comes my way today. Click To Tweet

Who strengthens me.”

Lord, thank You for the strength, power, and durability You grant to me. Thank You for empowering me and filling me so that I might move ahead.

Today, I pray that from Your glorious, unlimited resources You will empower me with inner strength through Your Spirit. Make Your home in my heart as I trust in You. Would you cause my roots to grow down into Your love and keep me strong?

Also, would You give me the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep Your love is? Would You allow me to experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully? And, would you make me complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from You?

Father, thank You that I can do all things [which You have called me to do] through You who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill Your purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]

In Jesus’s name, I pray, Amen.
