It’s fascinating really.

If I were to bring together every great couple that I’ve ever known, read about, or admired from afar, they would have this one thing in common.

Whether old or young, rich or poor, black or white, dorky or hip, highly educated or not; all of these couples would have this one quality.

This one relationship quality is timeless, it is reliable, it is dependable, and it is true.

What’s the one thing that the best relationships have in common?

The most amazing couples have this one thing in common

They have a growing personal relationship with the Creator of this universe.

Individually and together, these couples pray, read the Bible, spend time talking about the things of God, and seek to know Christ more.

Believing in Jesus does not ensure that you will have an easier or a better marriage.

However, a love relationship with Christ gives you something that unbelievers don’t have.. a Savior.

When you are walking together with the Lord, you have the help, the assistance, the power, and the support of the almighty forces of heaven.

You don’t have to walk alone.

The two of you have a third person who walks with you… God Himself!

Let me illustrate with a story I heard years ago.

Sarah and Melvin had been married for 10 years when things began to fall apart in their marriage. Although everything had started out well, the couple had grown apart and had become very angry with each other.

They were considering divorce.

However, they were both believers and people of prayer.

So, Sarah started praying, and Melvin started praying – on their own.

They both read their Bibles and spend time alone with the Lord. This time with God began to melt their hard hearts and drain some of their anger towards each other.

Eventually, they began to talk again and smile at each other again. God restored their relationship, healed the rifts, and gave them a deep love for each other once more.

Having common ground at the foot of the cross saved their marriage.

And, having common ground at the foot of the cross can save, enhance, and boost your relationship as well.

So, let me ask you a question today – do you have this one thing in common?

Do you and your partner share a deep love relationship with Jesus?

It’s not about church attendance or formality; it’s about truly knowing the God who created you.

Do you know Him?

Does your spouse know Him?

Does your boyfriend or girlfriend walk with the Lord?

If not, you can.

It’s as simple as the A, B, C’s!

A = Admit that you are a sinner in need of a Savior.

To begin with, you need to admit you are a sinner in need of a Savior.

There is no one righteous, not even one … for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:10,23.

Ask God’s forgiveness.

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13

B = Believe in Jesus.

Next, put your trust in Him as your only hope of salvation.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Become a child of God by receiving Christ.

“To all who receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12

Put your trust in Him as your only hope of salvation.

Put your trust in Christ Jesus as your only hope of salvation. Click To Tweet

C = Confess that Jesus is your Lord.

“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

Would you like to accept, believe, and confess right now?

In fact, you can pray a prayer like this one to believe in the Lord Jesus and be saved:

“Dear Lord, I know that I am a sinner. I am separated from You by my sin, and I am sorry for my sin. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sin so that I can be made right with You. God, I believe Jesus rose from the dead and is alive.

Father, please forgive my sin. I invite Jesus into my life so that I might be made clean and whole again. I accept Him as my Savior and Lord. Father, I pledge to live my life completely for You.

Thank You for saving me.”

  1. Amen! This is a great post Melanie! Marriage is hard and it takes 3. Without God in the center to rely on we can’t do it. Why not rely on Him it’s His show anyway! All for the Glory of God 🙌🏼 Blessings to you!

  2. Love this, Melanie! There is nothing more important nor more powerful than walking with the Lord in our marriage. Marriage isn’t easy and the most “perfect” of marriages will hit difficult challenges. Having God there to fight for and with us, gives us a chance of making it the distance!

    Blessings and smiles ♥

  3. Melanie, yes and amen to all of this wisdom! I’m so very thankful that I learned this before getting married—to marry someone who is growing in their faith and who has a desire to grow. I’d like to say that our relationship feels less stressed too because we’re connected on that spiritual level. Plus we have fun talking about what God is teaching us! Thank you again for sharing this truth—it’s a great marriage check–up too!

    1. Hey Sonya,
Thanks for stopping by to leave a comment today.
What a great lesson to learn before marriage! And, yes! Time with the Lord brings so much more peace and less stress into our homes.
And, I agree. It’s lots of fun to talk about what God is teaching us.
      Your words encourage my heart!
Hope you have a blessed day~
      Melanie

  4. Love this, Melanie! It’s easy to get too busy for God…when our marriages start to unravel we might wonder where it all began. I think many times when my marriage seems distant, we aren’t getting in the Word!
