Share the Hope!

There’s no other message that holds greater importance in this life than the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The knowledge that this particular message was on the editorial calendar for our Delight in Doctrine series, and that I would be the one to get to write it, has filled my thoughts and has been a frequent topic in my prayers over the past few weeks.

As I thought about the gravity of what I was about to share, I felt a solemn weight that almost overwhelmed me.

I wanted my words to be perfect.

And suddenly, the irony of the situation hit me: even as I was preparing to share the good news of the gospel, I was missing the heart of it.  I failed to see correctly what my role in sharing this precious message would be.

My role is simply obedience to share the good news of the gospel.  Of course, I should do my best, but my “best” has nothing to do with its effectiveness.

God’s people, sharing the gospel, is the means God has appointed to call people to salvation,

“How are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?”

Romans 10:14 (NIV)

 what is the gospel

What is the Gospel Call?

It’s an act of God the Father that calls people into a saving faith.

The response is voluntary, yes- and someone has to speak (or write) the message, but it’s God who works in people’s hearts in a way that brings about a saving faith.

“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him.”

John 16:44 (NIV)

You see the heart of the gospel is that we can’t do any of it on our own.

We can’t save ourselves.

So, what can we do?

Join us as we take a clear and practical look at some of the most basic and essential tenets of the Christian life – the doctrines of the faith.

Each week, we highlight and explain a core doctrine. Then, we pose the question, “Why does this matter to you and me?”

For the purposes of the study, our main texts are first, the Bible, of course, and Wayne Grudem’s classic,  HERE.

In closing, it is our prayer that by the end of the year, we all find more delight in understanding what we believe and why we believe it.

“…And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27 (ESV)
