Find Hope in Exodus: Transform Challenges into Triumphs.

There are some seasons of life where the word hope feels like a stretch. You keep showing up, you keep trying, you keep praying… but under the surface, your heart is heavy. Maybe you feel unseen. Maybe even forgotten.

That was me not long ago.

I hadn’t been looking for a new role.

But in the middle of a crisis, I was asked to step in and help stabilize a ministry. The board was trying to sort things out, and I was asked to hold things steady in the meantime. My heart was to serve, to bring light, and to encourage others.

However, instead of flourishing, I found myself under the crushing weight of manipulation, dishonesty, and a culture that was far from healthy.

Walking away wasn’t a surprise ending.

The truth is, I had tried to leave more than once.

Truly, I saw red flags early, but like so many of us who care deeply and want to believe the best, I kept hoping things would change. In addition, I kept trying to fix what was broken.

Then One Day

And then the day came when I knew I couldn’t do it anymore.

Leaving broke me in ways I didn’t expect. I carried trauma in my body, anxiety in my chest, and a heart so bruised I wasn’t sure I’d ever recover.

But here’s the part I didn’t see coming: In the wilderness of grief, I found hope again.

God Sees in the Wilderness

In Exodus, God tells Moses, “I have surely seen the affliction of My people, and have given heed to their cry… So I have come down to deliver them.” (Exodus 3:7–8 NASB95)

That verse became so personal to me. God wasn’t distant from Israel’s pain, and He wasn’t distant from mine. Instead, He saw me. He heard me. And He was already moving on my behalf, even when I felt forgotten.

Friend, maybe you’ve been there too. Maybe you’re there right now. The place where your prayers feel like they’re bouncing off the ceiling. Where you wonder if God notices.

He does.

God sees.

And He delivers.

Not always on our timeline, and not always the way we expect, but always with His love and His wisdom.

During that season, I felt God was calling me to look closer at His identity because it was the only way I would be able to redefine my identity.

On that journey, I did a word study on Genesis 1, where it says we’re made in God’s image and likeness. One of the words connected to likeness is the idea of a shadow.

That undid me.

God Reminds Us That He Cares

Because a shadow can only form when you’re close to the sourceGod was reminding me that even when I felt broken and unseen that past year, I was still in His shadow, still under His covering, still being shaped by His presence.

I cried for days as I realized:

It was okay to grieve.

Even more, it was okay to say, “That hurt.”

Also, it was okay to admit, “I can’t fix this.”

And in that safe place, the shadow of His presence, He began to gently rebuild me.

The Fruit Test

Jesus tells us in Matthew 7 that you’ll know people by their fruit. And when I looked back, I realized the fruit of where I had been was fear, confusion, manipulation, and broken trust.

But the fruit of God’s Spirit? Love. Joy. Peace. Kindness. Faithfulness. Self-control. (Galatians 5:22–23)

That clarity gave me hope. Because even though I had walked through unhealthy leadership, God was still teaching me how to recognize His voice and His character. He was sharpening my discernment so I could walk forward in freedom instead of fear.

Your Wilderness Can Birth Hope

Friend, I don’t know what wilderness you’re walking through right now. Maybe it’s:

A job that drained you instead of growing you.

A relationship where you gave your best, but it wasn’t enough.

Or a season of waiting where God feels silent.

But here’s what I do know: God never wastes the wilderness.

If you’ll let Him, He’ll use the very place of your pain to deepen your intimacy with Him.

He’ll clear the fog.

Also, He’ll bring discernment where there was confusion. Even more, He’ll remind you who you are in His image, under His shadow.

Just Like in Exodus – Find Hope in Exodus: Transform Challenges into Triumphs

And just like Israel in Exodus, He won’t just bring you out.

He’ll bring you in…

into freedom

into rest

and ultimately into hope.

Pray With Me

Lord, thank You that You see us in our wilderness. You hear our cries, and You are faithful to deliver.

For the one reading this who feels unseen, remind them they are under Your shadow: covered, protected, and loved.

Bring Your healing, bring Your hope, and bring them into the freedom You’ve already prepared. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
