How to Keep a Beautiful Melody of Hope

How to Keep a Beautiful Melody of Hope
Do you have a song playing through your mind right now?
My husband always has one, and as he moves about the house, he is usually singing a tune.
Often, the one running through my head is prompted by the one he is singing!
Reflecting on the Importance of Hope
As I reflected on the importance of hope, I immediately thought about the role music plays in my life: at home, at work, and in the car. Yes, our home is filled with music thanks to my husband.
At work, there is instrumental music keeping me company.
As the stress at work builds, the melodic tune gives me pause to take a deep breath and smile. Worship music is often playing in our car, reminding us of our majestic Lord, who is worthy of all praise.
However, one of the more creative ways I find hope in the melody is when I put scripture to music.
This Past Sunday
This past Sunday, my husband, as worship leader, selected a song with the line “our God is consuming fire.”
I had been hearing the song all week as my husband sang it throughout the day. God used that to prepare my heart for the message. Our pastor is preaching through Hebrews, and this past Sunday, he was in Hebrews 12.
What a crescendo it was in my own heart when I heard the pastor read Hebrews 12:28-29, “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful and so worship God acceptably with reference and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.”
Wow!
The melody that had been playing in my thoughts all week moved to my heart as God reminded me of the hope I have not only in heaven but also here on earth. God’s righteousness is a consuming fire.
When I surrender what needs to be burned up, what is left is good and honoring to God.
Since Sunday…
Since Sunday, I have been finding hope in the melody as I prayerfully sing “our God is consuming fire.”
Our God is a holy wind. Whatever God speaks is done. Whatever God touches will live.”
The words of this song play over and over in my heart, reminding me that I need God’s consuming fire. He is all-powerful and able to deal with the hurts and the sin that keep me from really “worshipping God acceptably with reference and awe” (Heb. 12:28).
Some of you might be musical and find yourself putting scripture to music you have created.
Most of us need help, and there are so many worship songs that have incorporated scripture into the lyrics.
What a source of encouragement and hope it is when you find yourself singing scripture!
Let Hope Fill Your Spaces
Consider the hope that will fill your home, your workspace, and your car as you listen to music that emphasizes scripture.
A quick search on the internet for “worship songs with scripture as part of the lyrics” will lead you to lists that are filled with suggestions.
If you are looking for more hope in each day, then fill each day with music that is based on scripture. Open your Bible and prayerfully study the passages that have been included in the songs you are listening to. Memorize the verses that are part of the melodies that are playing, and let those scriptures be a source of hope in your life.
Closing Thoughts – How to Keep a Beautiful Melody of Hope
For me, it all began with a simple melody.
That melody led me to scripture that was filled with encouraging truth.
Now that melody plays over and over in my head, reminding me of what God wants to do for me, and what I can do, in turn, for him!
“Let us be thankful and so worship God acceptably with reference and awe, for our ‘God is a consuming fire’” Hebrews 12:28-29.
