Navigating the Unusual Intersection of Hope and Waiting

Navigating the Unusual Intersection of Hope and Waiting… At the Intersection of Hope and Waiting
I’m standing at the intersection of hope and waiting. It began during the first days of summer and is continuing ahead with no end in sight.
The waiting place marks the passage of time between endings and beginnings, what was and what will be. While hope considers that life is still moving forward in the standstill of waiting. What I know is that it all feels too familiar.
If you’ve found yourself at the intersection of hope and waiting, you likely experienced a tension inside yourself as you requested answers for what’s next. The time is hard, good, and holy. God is present, and God has the answers, but you may ask yourself if you dare to persevere through the waiting to get to the other side.
Let’s explore the middle together.
In the Middle of the Waiting
I recognize waiting seasons quickly, but my first thought is to “shoo” it away. Instead, I experience slow-moving days without much happening. My thoughts are mostly muddled, and the clarity I desire is lost in a gaping hole that craves to be filled.
Does this sound familiar?
My current season of waiting began this summer when my “yeses” turned into “nos.” Not just one “yes”, but multiple answers were not what I expected.
When we find ourselves in the middle, we have an opportunity to believe God is still working or shut down and remain stuck.
The best solution is to seek the One who is our peace and strength. His Word reminds us:
How enriched are they who find their strength in the Lord:
within their hearts are the highways of holiness! Psalm 84:5, TPT
If we carry this truth in our hearts, we have a better chance of finding hope when it is hard to find. This has been the case for me in my waiting seasons, and I pray it is for you, too.
When Hope is Hard to Find
During my current waiting season, God is teaching me that even in the hard, He is still good. If I had a choice, I would never choose to wait until the next right thing. I would push through, whether it was the right thing or not.
There would be no intersection to stand and ponder my choices, but a clear path to hope and answers would stretch before me. Reality tells a different story.
Instead, two street signs fill my line of vision, and I stand in front of them and wonder …
What would it be like to lean into hope when it feels like nothing is happening?
Does taking time to love your waiting season feel refreshing and hope-filled?
If hope is hard to find, do you stick your head under a blanket and hide because it feels easier in the moment?
The truth is that God is before you, behind you, and with you always. And in this surrounding of His love, we find that hope is not just an idea, but a person. His name is Jesus.
What Waiting Has Taught Me
Many years of experience have taught me to slow down and turn back to God when life is challenging, and hope feels lost.
Seeking hope and embracing it as your foundation, when in a season of waiting, is always the best choice.
Reading God’s Word and clinging to its truth will lead you in the right direction because His Word tells us:
But those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
and they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31, NIV
The bottom line is that seasons of waiting are opportunities for God to highlight the things that aren’t working and provide the space for us to pivot toward Him.
And the foundation of waiting always lies with God. He determines our steps and how we get to the place He has already carved out for us.
Final Thoughts
Hope is always present because Jesus will never let you down. Your intersection is the pause you need to join with God for your next right thing.
Let’s remember that we reach Canaan–the Promised Land—only through the wilderness–
the hope of God,
the joy of a life with God,
and the blessing of salvation that is found on the other side of waiting.
Let’s embrace the sacred tension of waiting and let God lead us to a life of abundance in Him.
