Treasure Your Memories: How to Make the Past Feel Special

Nostalgia is a powerful feeling, but it’s hard to capture that feeling when you don’t have mementos to remind you of the good old days.

The good news is that there are so many ways that you can start building up a collection of memories and mementos today that help you treasure your memories and make the past feel special – and ways you can start building better memory keepsakes in the future.

This guide covers the top ways to make your memories feel more special, and how you can start collecting better mementos for yourself, starting today:

Find Your Old Yearbooks

Yearbooks are a great way to remember the past and the people you definitely don’t all remember. If you want an easy way to remember your time as a teenager or even younger, then a yearbook is absolutely the way to go.

Now, if you don’t have your yearbooks any more, don’t worry. You can discover college yearbooks online for you, your partner, and even all your family members, and even buy a reprint so you have a copy right at home.

Find Secondhand Mementos of Your Top Memories

If you’ve done some great things, like gone to a concert or other big event, but don’t have many keepsakes of that time, you should absolutely look online. See if anyone is selling an old band shirt from the concert or festival you went to.

It may not be an authentic memento, but it is authentic to that memory. Finding these kinds of keepsakes can also be a great gift idea for friends and family. Just make sure you get merchandise from the right event.

Frame Your Photos and Display Them

If you want your memories to feel special, you need to honor them. Photos from your favourite trip with your friends, or photos of your kids, deserve to be on more than just your phone. Have them professionally printed and decorate with them. You could even put two or more photos in one frame, making it easy to change them out (no digital frame required).

Other options can include connecting your digital photo album to your device’s screen savers. You can set it so your TV, laptop, computer, and phone all cycle through an album of your top memories.

Create Custom Photobooks

Another option is to create a beautifully put-together, curated collection of photo albums you can then have printed. Creating these albums is a great way to reminisce and treasure your memories, while the curated, formatted approach ensures friends and family have a better experience when viewing them. It can even help you remember better by avoiding information overload.

You could even leave blank space so that your loved ones can write their own messages and memories in the margins, making each photobook as much a treasured keepsake as your original yearbook would have been.

Tips for Memorializing Better in the Future

Memory is fickle, which is why it’s so important to take mementos in the present to better remember the past. You can do this in so many fun ways, but since pictures are the most accessible option of them all, it’s time to consider investing in a better camera. This could be an instant camera, a film camera, or even a dedicated digital camera – whatever it takes.

Having a physical camera and not just your phone is a great way to remind you to take photos, all while giving you either better quality or a more unique quality that you will treasure forever.
