Five Scriptures That Bring Hope When Life Feels Impossible.
Have you ever whispered, “I can’t do this anymore”?
I have.
Some seasons in life feel as if they will never end.
When we feel pressed up against a wall with no clear way over or around it.
But there is a place to start, and that is with Jesus and His words.
Today, I have five scriptures that bring me hope when life feels impossible. I hope they will do the same for you.
Five Scriptures That Bring Hope
Life often presses hard against us, leaving us weary and wondering if we can go on. Yet God’s Word whispers hope into our impossibilities. These verses remind us that no matter what surrounds us, our souls can find strength in Christ.
Hope When Weary
God’s strength will help us soar.
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31 NIV)
I’ve walked through seasons of caring for others when the weight of responsibility left me with barely enough strength to get out of bed. Yet in those weary days, as I turned to God, I discovered a new kind of strength—not in my body, but in my spirit.
Our strength gives out, but God has an abundance He wants to give to each of us.
However, we must put our hope and trust in Him.
Hope in Renewed Strength
Our souls grow stronger in Christ.
“Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
(2 Corinthians 4:16–18 NIV)
All of us will suffer, even Christians.
Paul knew this well. He reminded us that when our bodies grow weak, our souls can grow stronger in Christ.
When life presses hard, hope lifts us by fixing our eyes on the unseen glory that is yet to come.
Hope in New Mercies
Joy and peace are companions to hope.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
(Romans 15:13 NIV)
We must remember that it is God who will bring us hope even when our world seems so dark. The Holy Spirit has the power within us. We can easily say this scripture as a prayer for yourself or someone else.
Hope in God’s Faithful Love
Even in the darkest nights, His mercies rise new with the morning light.
“Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
(Lamentations 3:21-23 NIV)
Do you ever have those nights when you feel so alone? Perhaps you pull your knees to your chest, hugging tight and wishing the pain would go away.
I remember nights when I curled up in bed, tears soaking my pillow, whispering, “Lord, I can’t do this anymore.”
And yet—even there—His mercies met me. In dark times, we can rest in the promise that tomorrow will bring fresh compassion and new mercies.
Honestly, on these nights, I can’t wait to close my eyes and start all over again tomorrow.
Hope as an Anchor
Jesus is our hope.
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain.”
(Hebrews 6:19 NIV)
Many times on the shores of Lake Powell, storms have rolled in with sudden force, threatening to overtake us and pull us adrift. Yet the anchors held us steady, fastened to the shore. In seasons of disappointment, this experience reminds me that Christ is my anchor when everything around feels unstable.
Corrie Ten Boom once wrote, “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”
Hope doesn’t remove the storm, but it anchors us so we won’t get swept away.
Now It Is Your Turn
Each day, take one of the five verses that bring hope and write it out on a piece of paper, an index card, or pretty paper. Feel free to draw around it and make it a piece of art.
Put it up in a place that will catch your eye as you go about your day.
Then, in your journal, write out a prayer using the scripture.
Repeat this daily using a verse from above or one that is close to your heart on hope.
Closing Encouragement
Maybe you’re walking through grief, facing an unexpected diagnosis, or standing at the edge of uncertainty. Whatever your situation, hope is not out of reach. Jesus, our living hope, promises never to leave you or forsake you.
We don’t have to carry our impossible seasons alone—God’s Word will help carry us. Hope can be found in our circumstances when we find our hope in Christ.
