How to Find Hope When You Are in Caregiving Crisis Mode

How to Find Hope When You Are in Caregiving Crisis Mode.
Help! a weak voice cried as my husband and I rounded a corner on our morning walk. We slowed our pace, listening. Hey, hello?
Help! the call floated from a pink apartment across the street, its windows cranked open in the Florida heat.
A battered SUV with a smashed front end sat parked in the driveway of the run-down dwelling. Help…
Should we go check?
I scratched my head, swatting a gnat. Jim picked up the pace, sand crunching beneath his sneakers. I don’t know if the situation is safe, but I see a police car up the street. We’ll tell them.
Upon our request, the officers drove to the site. Later, emergency vehicles clanged and sirens screamed, announcing the arrival of help. Someone was definitely in need.
When Emergencies Spring Up
When emergencies spring up, it’s easy to fall into the anxiety trap. The world can be a scary place, full of unexpected calamities.
Honestly, the older I get, the more I struggle with fear and apprehension. As a mother and caregiver, my anxious thoughts often race faster than the lizards that dart to and fro on our daily stroll.
During the rearing years, I rarely worried about my kids’ safety because I was watching over them. (Not sure how I reasoned that out, what with the four of them wreaking havoc all over the house and neighborhood!) But now that they’re grown, I fret.
The things I can’t control loom large. However, even when the kids were under my roof, they were actually under God’s care, yet I was trusting my flawed assumptions.
Emergencies Are in the Bible Too!
Similarly, the nation of Israel trusted their reasoning, chose their own way, and dismissed God’s care, even though He opened a path through the Red Sea and provided them with manna and water from rocks. They saw with their eyes, yet Psalm 78:32 says, “In spite of all this, they still sinned; despite his wonders, they did not believe.”
Lack of faith results in fear.
When we are fearful, it’s natural to want to trust our instincts. But trusting God’s plan brings reassurance and hope, even in the face of fear.
How can we trust when we are afraid?
The better question is, how can we not trust? We cannot afford to linger outside His care.
That Cry for Help
Just as time was of the essence on our steamy morning walk and help arrived as soon as we asked, we can access God’s immediate help.
Indeed, we often offer fleeting prayers amidst our busy lives, and there are times when that is needed.
However, when we take time to sit at His feet, absorbing His peace, we experience a sense of calm and centeredness that helps us navigate even the most challenging situations.
As Busy Moms & Caregivers – How to Find Hope When You Are in Caregiving Crisis Mode
Busy moms and caregivers struggle to find time to be still. I’ve been there myself.
There are seasons when we are barely surviving, dashing from doctor appointments to emergency room visits, grabbing takeout on the run with little time to think.
However, we can take comfort that prioritizing time with God is not a passive act, but a proactive one that can empower us in times of fear and uncertainty.
We must slow our pace.
Stop to listen.
Get creative.
Every Life Situation is Different
Every life situation is different, and only you can determine those pockets of time.
For me, it was an early morning routine of Scripture and coffee, 3×5 cards, and a new verse for my car dashboard.
For you, it may be reading the Bible app on your phone alongside a quiet hospital bedside, or journaling prayers while waiting in the school pickup line. Remember, it’s not about the method; it’s about intentional connection with God.
Keep your eyes and ears open to opportunities, because there is hope for your crisis mode; God’s wondrous works are available to you!
(And let’s face it, His ways really are better, even though we may think differently.)
Trust God’s Remedy – How to Find Hope When You Are in Caregiving Crisis Mode
Trust God’s remedy; seek Him, and you’ll receive His peace and guidance. He’s right there with you, ready to provide, even in emergencies.
“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,”
Ephesians 1:17-18
