10 Verses to Inspire You to FOLLOW After God

To follow.

To follow is to… go after.

Indeed, to follow is to… move behind someone in the same direction.

Following God is sometimes so easy.

As He leads us into more fulfilling work, sweeter relationships, and better conditions, it’s so easy to follow Him.

However, when God starts heading down a lonely path or a difficult road, I find myself hesitating.

My steps slow, my mind starts coming up with excuses, and I start dragging my feet.

How about you?

10 Verses to Inspire You to FOLLOW After God

I like to think of following God as a great “adventure.”

It’s never boring.

Truly, it’s never predictable.

And, it’s usually not easy.

Adrian Rogers once said, “You’ll have to decide at some point – to stay put or to risk it all, following Him!”

What if we chose to go on the “adventure” with Him this year – in complete faith that He will lead us perfectly where we need to go?

What if we decided to RISK it all and follow Jesus?

There’s a great scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade that so illustrates this idea of stepping out in faith.

Why not take 2 minutes and watch it?

To further assist us in stepping out in faith today, I’m sharing 10 Bible Verses to Inspire You to FOLLOW After God:

Verse One – Joshua 14:14

(Speaking of Caleb’s faith and obedience) “Hebron still belongs to the descendants of Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite because he wholeheartedly followed the Lord, the God of Israel.”

Verse Two – Matthew 4:19-20

‘Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”

And they left their nets at once and followed him.’

Verse Three – Matthew 8:19-22

Then one of the teachers of religious law said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.”

Another of his disciples said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.”

But Jesus told him, Follow me now. Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead.”’

Verse Four – Matthew 16:24

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your way, take up your cross, and follow me.”‘

Verse Five – Matthew 19:27-30

‘Then Peter said to him, “We’ve given up everything to follow you. What will we get?”

Jesus replied, “I assure you that when the world is made new and the Son of Man sits upon his glorious throne, you who have been my followers will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life.

But many who are the greatest now will be least important then, and those who seem least important now will be the greatest then.”

Verse Six – Luke 9:23

‘Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.”‘

Verse Seven – John 10:27

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”

Verse Eight – John 12:26

Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.”

Verse Nine – Galatians 5:25

“Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.”

Verse Ten – 1 Peter 2:21

“For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.”

To follow is to... is to go after. To follow is to... move behind someone in the same direction. Following God is sometimes so easy. But other times it is difficult to step out in faith. Today, we offer 10 Bible verses that will inspire, motivate, & encourage you to follow after God wholeheartedly. Why not stop by for a visit?

My prayer this week is that we will so trust in our great God and that we will follow Him.

The words to an old song come to mind:

I have decided to follow Jesus;
Yes, I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.

Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
And, will you decide now to follow Jesus?
Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
No turning back, no turning back.

I really enjoyed the different scriptures. I had Matthew 16:24 marked in mt bible & a few notes. We need to be reminded about following Christ. Giving up our own way to follow Him. Thanks so much for such an uplifting message. Love ya.

Kathy · 01/08/2017 at 1:13 PM

Melanie,
Thank you SO much for obeying God to post this blog today. You see God has been pursuing me to give Him my WHOLE life and “giving up my own way”. It has happened in spurts over different years. Each “battles” have been won by Him whether it was seeing an error in my thinking or a disappointment in a relationship. Each time He has drawn me I have tussled with Him, but I have been thankful that I have surrendered. This particular time He is doing deep cleansing and has humbled me
in such a power and honest way that I hope He is done with the chastening. But still my heart beats fast when he presses in and says “leap”!
You are one in a list of people and their words in the last three weeks. All being used in my life to give God’s message. I am thankful for His show of love in this way. Please pray with me that my heart will jump. It is my deepest desire to trust God completely, but some fear is blocking my footstep.

    helloredds@gmail.com · 01/08/2017 at 3:20 PM

    Hey Kathy,
Thanks for stopping by today and leaving such a good word!

I love hearing great testimonies about women who are completely surrendered to Jesus! You keep on going, Girl!

I will pray that you will be strong and courageous and that God will help you to stand strong! Keep me posted on what God does. This sounds exciting!

By the way, one of my very favorite quotes comes from D.L. Moody, ““The world has yet to see what God can do with a man fully consecrated to him. By God’s help, I aim to be that man.” (I think we could substitute “woman” there!)
    Blessings to you,
    Melanie

I choose to follow Jesus wherever He leads; just praying I hear and obey when He calls.
Thanks for these inspiring verses, Melanie! Blessings!

    helloredds@gmail.com · 01/08/2017 at 3:17 PM

    Amen!
Keep on following and keep on obeying!
Makes me think of the old hymn – “Trust and obey. For there’s no other way. To be happy in Jesus. But to trust and obey.”
Thanks for stopping by to leave a kind word today.
    I appreciate your visit~
    Blessings,
    Melanie

Tracey · 01/08/2017 at 8:23 AM

Yes I want let go of my own way and surrender all to follow Jesus but I struggle with knowing His voice……how do I tell the difference between His voice or my desires?

    helloredds@gmail.com · 01/08/2017 at 3:14 PM

    Hey Tracey,

Thanks for stopping by to leave a comment and ask a question today. And, what a great question.

In short, I believe God lines things up when He wants us to move in a certain direction. When trying to discern whether God is in something – you should be able to find confirmation as you are reading the Bible, as you are praying, as you are listening to a sermon, as you are talking to trusted friends, and by the peace that you sense over this decision.

I actually wrote a post awhile back that I think will help to further answer your question.

Praying God will give you wisdom today~

That’s the best way to live, Comfort!
      Blessings to you,
      Melanie

Thanks for these words because sometimes the path is indeed rocky, but the Lord knows the way!!!

    helloredds@gmail.com · 01/08/2017 at 3:10 PM

    Amen!
He sure does know the way! It can be very rocky sometimes, but press on!
Praying that God will encourage your heart today!
