Finding Hope in Christ in My Garden

Finding Hope in Christ in My Garden
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him,
so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13 HCSB
While I was growing up, my family often had a garden in the summers. Gardens are special hope-filled places of new beginnings, growth, and beauty.
Also, we can see the Lord’s wonderful handiwork in the creation of His plants. We watch new life form as plants start as seeds, grow into small green stems, and mature into full-grown plants with their unique offerings to share with the world.
Caring for a garden teaches us patience and offers us hope
Caring for a garden teaches us patience and offers us hope. As we dig into the dirt to plant the tiny seeds, we believe they will grow into something beautiful.
Truly, we spend time visiting our gardens repeatedly for weeks, then months, watering, weeding, watching, waiting, and wondering when they will be grown enough to produce the bounty we are longing for.
Then, we faithfully tend to these plants with the hope that they’ll produce what they were created for. We don’t expect strawberries from tomato plants or potatoes from a pumpkin vine. Each plant has its unique characteristics and will bless the gardener most by being what it was designed to be.
Master Gardeners
Master gardeners also study ways to arrange their plants so that each will thrive and sometimes even help their neighbors.
“Companion planting” creates the best use of a space while allowing for the production of the most crops. One example includes tomatoes and basil. When they are planted near each other, the tomatoes will shade the basil, while the basil’s scent keeps some insects away, protecting the tomatoes.
We can find hope for ourselves in this same way.
In the same way, we can find hope for ourselves. God plants the seeds of our gifts and talents. He then tends to the soil of our lives by adding in the unique plans He has placed in our hearts.
Then, we continue to mature and produce our fruit as we look toward our Master Gardener for His Light and Living Water.
When Times Are Tough – Finding Hope in Christ in My Garden
When times are tough, our hearts can dry up like hard clay. Seasons of drought, disappointment, and deep sorrow will come. But even in those times, we can continue to grow in hope.
Isaiah 58:11 states, “The Lord will always lead you, satisfy you in a parched land, and strengthen your bones. You will be like a watered garden and like a spring whose waters never run dry.”
In Psalm 1:2-3, we read, “…his delight is in the Lord’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night. He is like a tree planted beside streams of water that bears its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.”
Indeed, staying close to our Master Gardener enables us to prosper. These loving promises from the Lord remind us that He remains with us in the dry seasons of life and can turn even those difficult times into beautiful blessings.
Closing Thoughts – Finding Hope in Christ in My Garden
As we continue to weed, water, and watch over our plants, we will better understand this truth that God is also tending to us. He is removing our weeds of fear, watering us with His grace, and shining His warm presence over our lives. We are nurtured through His tender care.
As we serve the Lord throughout our lives, Galatians 6:9 reminds us, “…we must not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.”
And as our gardens’ bounties grow, let us always have hope and praise Him more and more. (Psalm 71:14)
