Turning 2 Chronicles 7:14 Into Your Personal Prayer
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we are living in some unusual and rather chaotic times right now.
Consistently, we hear about hurricanes and floods and storms and crime. Our communities, our churches, our families, our businesses, our cities, our states, our countries–all of it is in flux.
So, what do we do?
As believers, what can we do to combat all of the chaos around us?
The best answer I have for you is… We pray.
Not those little simple Sunday school prayers, but rather we pray like we never have before.
With gusto!
With intensity!
And, with seriousness!
Even in humility.
With everything inside of us, we pray.
What do we say in our prayers?
One of the best prayers and our hope for our communities, churches, cities, states, and nations is found in Second Chronicles 7:14.
“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”
Would you like to pray 2 Chronicles 7:14 with me today?
Then, if my people who are called by my name,
Dear God, You are so faithful! Thank You for calling me into fellowship with Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Also, thank You for setting me apart by Your grace before I was even born. You knew I would be Yours and would be praying to You at this very moment. Thank You for saving me by Your amazing grace!
Truly, it is amazing that my relationship with You is all about Your purpose and Your grace. My good works don’t cause You to love and accept me. You just love and accept me because of Jesus.
As one of Your own children, I am coming to You today. Like never before, I desperately need You, my family desperately needs You, my church desperately needs You, and the world desperately needs You! We cry out for help today!

“For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.”

Will humble themselves and pray. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Oh, Father, I want to clothe myself in humility today and pray to You. I humble myself so that You might lift me up. Even more, I know You are opposed to proud people but give awesome grace to those who are humble.
Truly, You have shown my family and me so much mercy and goodness. I know that You desire us to love mercy and walk humbly with You. This can be hard at times, but I want to please You, God!
Moreover, thank You that You guide us when we are humble and teach us what is right. Thank You for delighting us, and crown the humble with victory.
In this moment, I humble myself before You. I am Yours and am so aware of my total dependence on You.
(Colossians 3:12; James 4:10; James 4:6; Micah 6:8; Psalm 25:9; Psalm 149:4)
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.”
James 4:10
And seek My face. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Lord, I admit, I seek a lot of things: wealth, fame, relationships, success, significance, security, and a myriad of other things. Honestly, I get distracted from seeking You because I’m looking in so many other directions.
However, today, I want to seek Your face! I want to seek after You! I want to look to You and Your strength and seek Your face always. Indeed, I want to devote my heart to seeking You.
Like the Prophet Jeremiah, I want to seek You and find You when I search for You with all of my heart. When we seek You first, You bless us greatly and add so much goodness and grace to our lives.
Because I love You, Lord, I want to seek after You and find You. I want to enjoy our relationship like never before and walk closely with You day by day.
Truly, You bless those who seek You. Those who seek the Lord lack nothing good; they have all that they need for life and godliness.
(1 Chronicles 16:11; 1 Chronicles 22:19; Jeremiah 29:13; Matthew 6:33; Proverbs 8:17; Psalm 9:10; Psalm 34:10; 2 Peter 1:3)
“If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.”
Jeremiah 29:13
And turn from their wicked ways.
Father, if there is something I need to make right with You, point it out. Be clear and precise. I want to live above board and right with You and others.
Show me clearly:
Any person I need to make amends with today?
Any habit I have that is not good or helpful.
Anything I’m doing that You want me to stop doing.
Anything I need to add to my day?
Any way in which You are offended at my life.
Any sin that I need to confess.
Even if it is challenging, Lord, I’m willing to be willing to make a change and make things right with you and others. If anything in my life is preventing You from working or blessing me, show me. Let’s work on this matter together.
For I know, if we confess our sins, You are faithful to forgive us completely and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”
1 John 1:9
I will hear from heaven. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Oh, Lord, thank You that if we ask anything according to Your will, You promise to hear us. Thank You that Your eyes are on the righteous and Your ears are open to our prayers.
Amazingly, we can cast all of our anxieties on You because You care about us and care for us. Even more, You bend down to listen when I pray. So, I will pray to You as long as I have breath!
In addition, it is so comforting to know that You are near to all who call on You. We can call on You, and You will show us great and mighty things that we don’t already know.
Even more, we can walk right into Your presence and talk with You anytime. You give us incredible mercy and grace to help us when we need it most.
(1 John 5:14-15; 1 Peter 3:12; 1 Peter 5:7; Psalm 116:2; Psalm 145:18; Jeremiah 33:3; Hebrews 4:16)
“The Lord is close to all who call on him,
yes, to all who call on him in truth.”
Psalm 145:18
And will forgive their sins.
Lord, I’m amazed by Your forgiveness.
Truly, You are slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. Although You could, You don’t deal with us or repay us according to our sin. Rather, You graciously remove our sin from us as far as the East is from the West.
Also, thank You for blotting out all of my transgressions. Thank You for washing me thoroughly from iniquity and cleansing me from my sin.

And restore their land.
Finally, Lord, I believe that You can restore my land. Whether it be my own home and family my community or my country, I ask You to begin a work of healing and restoration. You are the Master Renovator!
According to the Bible, You can restore all that is broken and change it into something amazing. By Your grace, You can restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish me and my life.
So, I lay down all that is broken, and I invite You to mend, heal, refresh, renew, reveal, repurpose, renovate, and restore. Do awesome work in my life, my family, my church, my community, and my country.
Like Jeremiah I pray, heal me, Lord, and I will be healed. Save me, Lord, and I will be saved. Renew and restore me, Lord, and I will be renewed and restored. I ask You to do this for me, for my family, and for my land.

“In his kindness, God called you to share in his eternal glory using Christ Jesus. So, after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.”
