3 Health Benefits from Spirituality & Focusing on God

Throughout history, human beings have found ways of connecting to a sense of the spiritual, and of exploring their spirituality through a variety of different techniques and practices.

They’ve looked into the heavens and wondered, Is there a God? A Creator of all of this?”

In Psalm 8, David pens these words:

When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers, Is there a God
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what are people that you are mindful of,
human beings that you care for them?

Something draws us to want to know our Creator. All humans are created with a curiosity about God, spirituality, and matters of eternity.

Possibly you are religious in the conventional sense and attend a church like the Universal Church or another similar congregation.

Maybe you explore “spirituality” in a more secular sense?

Whatever the case, there is good evidence that spiritual faith can significantly benefit your life.

Here are a few of how it can do so.

First… Focusing on God and spirituality can give you a sense of hope and belief when suffering.

When someone has spiritual faith and explores that regularly, they are lifted above the frustrations, pain, and suffering of everyday life.

In addition, they are granted a degree of hope that can be truly profound.

It’s not that exploring your spirituality means you get to avoid suffering.

It’s more like the suffering is counterbalanced by something more powerful and meaningful, and your sense of belief in your ability to transcend suffering increases in tandem with that.

That something more powerful and meaningful is God Himself.

SecondFocusing on God and spiritual things can help you to maintain perspective on the best way to conduct yourself.

Spiritual faith – that is, faith in something meaningful beyond every day – can help to give you perspective on the best way to conduct yourself at any given point in your life.

Truly, we are all faced with uncertainty at times. We wonder how we could get back on the right track.

In such cases as these, the path ahead can seem impossible to determine.

Spiritual faith in God can offer insight, wisdom, and understanding–especially when this faith is based on the Bible. Time in the Bible can shed light on life’s situations.

Psalm 119:105 tells us, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. “

ThirdFocusing on God and spirituality can remind you to look up when you need help

Often, when we are caught up in the normal hustle and bustle of life, we can fall into the trap of externalizing everything.

If we are feeling happy, we attribute it entirely to other people or things. If we are feeling unhappy, we do the same.

We begin to get stressed out.

One of the great lessons of spiritual faith, however, is that it’s important to look up, to lift our hearts and minds to what matters.

We must look to the only One who can truly really help us. He is our best stress reliever.

Psalm 121 sums up these thoughts well:

I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
My help comes from the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth?

He will not let you stumble;
the one who watches over you will not slumber.
Indeed, he who watches over Israel
    never slumbers or sleeps.

The Lord himself watches over you!
The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.
The sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon at night.

The Lord keeps you from all harm
    and watches over your life.
The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go,
    both now and forever.
